How many more sleeps?

Gaaaaaaaaaaah!  Could this week be going any slooooooooooower?  Does Mother Nature put extra hours into the days leading up to Christmas?  Does she not know I adore Christmas?  I need it to be here now!  Now dammit!

(I suffer like this every Christmas.  With the slow day thingy)

(It is an affliction, not unlike leprosy or an eye tick)

(It gets really bad on Christmas morning when I am the first one awake (at 4 a.m.  Ashley gets so annoyed with me waking her at that time of the morning) and rushing out to the tree to see what Santa left)

(My brothers and I used to get up at 4:00ish every Christmas morning and sneak out to the tree to see how many presents “he” had left for us.  Then we would bunk out in one of our rooms and whisper excitedly until 6:00 when we were allowed to wake our parents, but only if we had made tea for them first.  We would start boiling the kettle at 4:05.)

(34 years old and I still do it.)

(AFFLICTED!)

Oh, but I am DOGGING it here at work this week.  I cannot for the life of me get inspired to crunch a single number or work on a spreadsheet or file anything.  The very thought of 10 whole days off in a row, starting tomorrow at 4:00pm, is making me giddy.

My brother Clive (Freddy Fortine) and his girlfriend (who we’ve never met, oh sweet Jesus, please don’t let her be too shocked by our freaky family) land at 3:00 this afternoon.  The seal on a very large bottle of Jack Daniels will be broken the minute they walk through the door.  My workday tomorrow will most likely be hazy and a little painful.

With Clive here, at least I will have someone to whisper with at 4 o’clock on Christmas morning…

…and someone to help me boil the kettle!

  2. I am SO much like you, it’s scary. I’ll be up at the buttcrack of dawn for sure. It’s the one day a year I can piss my kids off by waking them up first!
    Have a great Christmas sweetie!
